10,000-ton high-activity polyisobutylene plant started construction

China's largest 10,000-ton high-activity polyisobutylene production plant has recently started construction at the Chihuahua Group's Fine Chemicals Plant, marking the end of the long-term reliance on imports of domestic high-activity polyisobutylene products.

The plant's existing 4500-ton/year high-activity polyisobutylene production plant is the first in China, and it is also a major scientific research and development achievement obtained by the China National Petroleum Corporation's “Tenth Five-Year Plan” technology plan, with independent intellectual property rights and patented technology. High-activity polyisobutylene series products are non-toxic, odorless, colorless and transparent, and can be widely used in oil additives, high-grade lubricants and so on.

After high-activity polyisobutylene series products were approved to be listed in the national key new product project plan in July 2004, the factory will promptly make high-quality products occupy the market, carefully organize scientific and technical personnel to make full efforts to tackle problems, and adjust catalyst formulations, process optimization and technological improvement. The polymerization temperature increased from -27°C to -15°C, which effectively reduced the production cost and increased the production capacity of the device. The 10,000-ton high-activity polyisobutylene production plant currently under construction is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of August this year, at which time the total production capacity of the plant will reach 14,500 tons per year. According to the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, China National Petroleum Corporation will also build a 30,000-ton/year high-activity polyisobutylene production plant at the plant to meet the needs of the domestic market.
