The West-East Gas Pipeline Project that crosses 9 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions not only avoids sensitive environmental targets and important cultural relics, but also integrates ecological restoration into engineering construction for the first time, becoming a model of environmental protection for the construction of linear projects in China. The project has systematically conducted environmental protection scientific research and established a systematic environmental protection and ecological restoration technical standard for CNPC, which fills the void in the international linear engineering ecological restoration technology. The Shixi Oilfield Operation Zone, established in November 1997, is a modern one-million-ton oil field in the desert of Gurbantonggut in the Junggar Basin. The total investment is 2.855 billion yuan and the environmental protection investment is 44.27 million yuan. Through the environmental assessment and design, the project has achieved good results in protecting the desert ecosystem.
