Silicone bushings are commonly used in valve applications, typically installed in the valve bonnet and wrapping around the valve stem. A bushing or silicone bushing is a type of vibration isolator that provides an interface between two parts, helping to dampen energy transmission and absorb shocks while reducing vibrations through the bushing.

These bushings can be easily replaced when worn out. Without a bushing, you would need to replace the entire part once it wears down. People now prefer replacing just the bushing (designed with reduced hardness to act as a bearing in friction pairs), due to its ease of processing, low replacement cost, and convenience. It also includes other secondary functions like guiding capabilities.

A common application of bushings is in vehicle suspension systems, where a rubber (or more often synthetic rubber or polyurethane) bushing separates the faces of two metal objects while allowing a certain amount of movement. This allows the suspension parts to move freely, such as when driving over large bumps, while minimizing noise and small vibrations transmitted to the vehicle chassis. A silicone bushing may also be described as a flexible mounting or antivibration mounting.
