March Toyota Motor sales in China surge 37.4%

Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan announced on April 1 that in March 2011, the company’s car sales in the Chinese market increased by 37.4% year-on-year to 84,000 vehicles.

According to statistics, sales of Toyota Motor in the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2010 (January to March) totaled 208,000 units, an increase of 17% compared to the same period in 2009. Among them, in January Toyota Motor sales in China increased by 10.4% year-on-year to 80,000 units; in February, sales fell, 2.8 percent, to 44,000 vehicles.

A Toyota spokesman, Hitoshi Yokoyama, said that Toyota’s sales target for the Chinese market in 2011 is 900,000 units, which may be lower than the level of 2010.

On March 9, 2011, Toyoda President Toyoda Toyoda stated that in 2015, the Global Vision 2020 plans for the next ten years, sales in emerging markets will account for half of its total sales volume by 2015, while the proportion of sales in the Chinese market will increase to 15%.

It is reported that Toyota Motor Corporation has released data show that the company's 2010 car sales in the Chinese market was about 846,000, an increase of 19% over the previous year, more than the annual sales target of 800,000 set.
