Eggplant fruit rot is a serious disease that significantly impacts the commercial value of eggplants, often leading to substantial economic losses. The disease typically manifests as partial rotting, fruit drop beneath the calyx, or internal decay, making it challenging to manage once it takes hold. Field observations have identified three primary types of fruit rot affecting eggplants today. The first type involves "V"-shaped lesions on the edges of long, gray-hairy leaves, accompanied by wet rot and a gray moldy layer. The second type affects the top or stem end of the fruit, where rotting occurs with a similar gray moldy appearance. A third form involves stalk rot, also showing a gray moldy layer. This condition, known as gray mold, thrives in high humidity and warm temperatures. To prevent it, farmers can apply fungicides such as Kaisen, Xiangnong 2, or Anmol. Additionally, proper ventilation to reduce humidity, along with the removal of infected flowers, petals, fruits, and leaves, is crucial in controlling the spread of *Botrytis cinerea*. Another common issue is odorless aubergines that develop a foul smell, though the fruit lacks visible hair and appears muddy. In severe cases, the fruit may fall from the plant. This is caused by bacterial soft rot, which can be managed through foliar sprays of agricultural streptomycin or neomycin. A third type of problem occurs when the fruit falls off without visible external rot, but upon cutting open, the inside turns brown or black. This is often due to a physiological deficiency in essential nutrients like boron and calcium. However, the lack of these nutrients isn't always due to soil deficiency; it's frequently the result of poor nutrient uptake by the plant. To address this, it's important to supplement the soil with calcium and boron, maintain balanced watering and fertilization, and promote healthy root development. Farmers should avoid overwatering and ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged, providing the necessary conditions for optimal growth and nutrient absorption.
