Another common issue is odorless aubergines that develop a foul smell, though the fruit lacks visible hair and appears muddy. In severe cases, the fruit may fall from the plant. This is caused by bacterial soft rot, which can be managed through foliar sprays of agricultural streptomycin or neomycin. A third type of problem occurs when the fruit falls off without visible external rot, but upon cutting open, the inside turns brown or black. This is often due to a physiological deficiency in essential nutrients like boron and calcium. However, the lack of these nutrients isn't always due to soil deficiency; it's frequently the result of poor nutrient uptake by the plant. To address this, it's important to supplement the soil with calcium and boron, maintain balanced watering and fertilization, and promote healthy root development. Farmers should avoid overwatering and ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged, providing the necessary conditions for optimal growth and nutrient absorption.
