Universal Isuzu invests 50 million U.S. dollars to build a diesel engine plant

According to overseas media reports, General Motors Corp. and Isuzu have officially announced that they will invest 50 million U.S. dollars together to build a factory in Ohio, USA, with the aim of "protecting" 500 jobs and building heavy-duty diesel engines.

Compared with the European market, the future of heavy-duty diesel engines in the United States is currently questioned. GM and Isuzu's investment plan is intended to improve the fuel economy of heavy-duty diesel engines.

Christine Sitek, general manager of North American Manufacturing, said: "Today, our announced cooperation program marks the determination of GM to reduce the impact of the car on the environment. At the same time, maintaining high performance is still our important goal."

The plant was named DMAX Co., located in Moraine, Ohio. Since 2000, the plant has produced 1.6 million diesel engines. The Duramax 6.6-litre turbodiesel engine on the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size MPVs, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups are assembled here.

DMAX president and CEO Omah Mitsuya said: “The performance of Duramax's diesel engines is well-known in the industry and we are looking forward to taking this opportunity to improve its emissions and make it better.”

Since fuel economy is a very competitive factor in the truck market, diesel engines have a huge advantage in this area. Due to scientific and technological progress in this area, diesel engines can provide more stable and smooth peak torque and power output for automobiles.
