Agricultural mechanization has become the main force in agricultural production in Ping'an County

In the present season, Haidong's agricultural regions are in full bloom with harvest time. Specifically, Pingguo County, located along National Highway 109, is experiencing a vibrant agricultural boom. While the fields are filled with signs of abundance, what stands out most is the transformation brought by the "Iron Bull"—a symbol of modernization in farming. Thanks to the introduction of advanced agricultural machinery such as new tillage machines, planters, and harvesters, farming practices in Pingan County have evolved significantly from traditional manual labor and animal power to mechanized agriculture. To date, the total mechanical power in rural areas of Pingan County has reached 61,100 kilowatts, marking a 23.19% increase compared to ten years ago. Today, farmers widely use machinery for plowing, sowing, harvesting, grinding, transportation, irrigation, and processing of agricultural products. This shift has not only improved efficiency but also transformed the daily lives of farmers. In 2004, the county achieved significant progress in mechanized farming, with 3,533 hectares under machine cultivation, 3,466 hectares under machine planting, and 360 hectares under machine harvesting. The development of agricultural machinery has greatly boosted productivity, freeing up a large portion of the rural workforce. As a result, many former farm workers have transitioned into secondary and tertiary industries, contributing to broader economic growth and improving overall societal productivity. Currently, the county employs 45,000 rural workers, generating over 28,000 person-years of output, which accounts for 64.3% of the total rural labor force. This marks a historic breakthrough in the migration and employment of rural labor. At the same time, it has significantly improved farmers’ living standards. The advancement in mechanization and the adoption of new technologies have enhanced agriculture’s resilience against natural disasters, increased farmers’ incomes, and improved their quality of life. For instance, the county has one major rainwater collection project with over 5,918 facilities, providing clean drinking water for tens of thousands of farmers. With the promotion of various agricultural machines and technologies like new tillage machines, planters, and harvesters, farming in the county has shifted from manual labor to mechanized operations, gradually moving toward specialization, socialization, and modernization. There are now 5,437 agricultural machinery households and 1,500 specialized agricultural machinery operators, marking a new stage in the division of labor and the evolution of rural economies.
