Agricultural mechanization has become the main force in agricultural production in Ping'an County

At present, it's the peak of the harvest season in most agricultural areas of Haidong. This is particularly evident within Pingan County, along National Highway 109. While the sight of bountiful fields along the road is impressive, even more remarkable is the emergence of the "Iron Bull"—a symbol of modernization in agriculture. Thanks to the widespread adoption of advanced agricultural machinery and new technologies such as tillers, seeders, and harvesters, farming in Pingan has transitioned from reliance on manual labor and animal power to mechanized production. To date, the total power of rural machinery in Pingan County has reached 61,100 kilowatts, a significant increase of 23.19% compared to ten years ago. Today, farmers widely use machinery for plowing, sowing, harvesting, grinding, transportation, irrigation, and processing agricultural products. This shift has not only improved efficiency but also transformed the daily lives of local farmers. In 2004, the county saw 3,533 hectares under mechanized farming, 3,466 hectares under mechanized planting, and 360 hectares under mechanized harvesting. The development of agricultural machinery has greatly boosted productivity, freeing up a large portion of the rural workforce. As a result, many former agricultural workers have moved into secondary and tertiary industries, contributing to broader economic growth and raising overall productivity levels. Currently, the county employs 45,000 rural workers, with an output value exceeding 28,000 person-years, accounting for 64.3% of the total rural labor force. This marks a historic breakthrough in the migration and employment of rural labor. It has also significantly improved the quality of life for farmers. With increased mechanization and technological advancement, agriculture has become more resilient to natural disasters, while farmers' incomes have risen, and living conditions have improved. The county has implemented one major rainwater collection project, featuring over 5,918 wells, which has provided clean drinking water for tens of thousands of farmers. This initiative highlights the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting rural communities. Thanks to the promotion of advanced agricultural machinery and technologies like new tillers, planters, and harvesters, farming in the county has evolved from traditional methods to a more specialized, socialized, and modernized system. Currently, there are 5,437 agricultural machinery households and 1,500 professional agricultural machinery service units, marking a new stage in the division of labor and the transformation of rural economies.
