Praxair Builds Two Air Separation Devices for Mei Steel
Praxair (China) Investment Co., Ltd. and Meishan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Baosteel Co., Ltd., have signed a long-term gas supply agreement on April 2. Under the deal, Praxair (China) will construct two new air separation units, with the first set to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2009 and the second in the third quarter of 2010. These facilities are expected to significantly enhance the supply of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon for Meishan Steel's ongoing expansion plans.
The agreement is part of a broader strategy by Meishan Iron & Steel, along with its parent company Baosteel, to advance its vision of becoming a globally competitive steel producer. The new plants will increase the total oxygen production capacity to approximately 60,000 cubic meters per hour, supporting the growing demand from the steelmaking process. Prior to this development, Praxair and Meishan had already operated three air separation units under a joint venture, demonstrating a long-standing and successful partnership.
