Let brand name lead and promote the development of machinery industry
In the past five years, China's machinery industry has successfully developed 110 Chinese brand-name products. Looking ahead, the next five years aim to create an additional 200 such products. These ambitious goals were announced by Yu Zhen, President of the China Machinery Industry Federation, during a seminar on the "Eleventh Five-Year" brand development plan held on May 13. The event took place at the start of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan," where 14 categories of machinery products were introduced under the 2006 China Famous Brand Evaluation Index, with companies actively participating in the application process.
Yu Zhen emphasized that cultivating and promoting Chinese machinery products to become nationally and internationally recognized brands is a strategic task aimed at transforming China from a major equipment manufacturing country into a strong one. This initiative aligns with the State Council’s "Important Manufacturing Industry Opinions," which outlines key measures for industrial revitalization. Over the past 15 years, China's machinery industry has significantly improved its technological capabilities, mastering core technologies in major equipment and making breakthroughs in basic machinery and key components. Advanced manufacturing technologies have also gained widespread adoption, leading to the emergence of competitive, market-leading brands.
Since 2001, 110 brands across 27 product categories—including motorcycles, cameras, large passenger cars, CNC machines, and transformers—have been awarded the title of "China Famous Brand Products." During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, the demand for high-quality, reliable, and reputable brand products will increase due to the construction of major national projects. To meet this demand, Yu Zhen highlighted the need to accelerate brand strategy implementation. He outlined four key areas: developing large-scale clean power generation systems, upgrading complete sets of equipment, enhancing petrochemical and environmental protection equipment, and advancing construction machinery and CNC technology.
Additionally, the industry should focus on advanced manufacturing techniques like precision, efficiency, automation, and information integration. Emphasis should be placed on resource conservation, clean production, and circular economy models to improve resource utilization. Strengthening independent innovation and R&D capabilities will further support brand development.
By 2010, the goal is to cultivate 150–200 Chinese brand-name products, with 5–10 products and 3–5 enterprises becoming globally recognized. The speech concluded with the presence of several officials, including Lin Zongkai, Ai Feng, and Hui Boyang, who supported the initiative. Yang Xuetong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Federation of Machinery Industry, chaired the meeting and delivered a closing address.
