3-Alarm fire in Franklin Park, 8-10-20

As I scroll through my Facebook feed, I came across an interesting post from the Schiller Park Firefighters Local 5230 page. It's about their recent involvement in a significant incident that happened last Monday, August 10th, 2020. Here's what it said: --- **Franklin Park Industrial Building Fire - Mutual Aid Efforts by Schiller Park Firefighters** On August 10th, 2020, there was a major fire at an industrial building in Franklin Park. The Schiller Park Fire Department was quick to respond, sending mutual aid support to assist in managing the situation. Our team, specifically members from Truck 5, played a crucial role in tackling this blaze. Upon arrival, our firefighters entered the structure with a 2 1/2-inch handline to suppress the flames. We coordinated with the Franklin Park crew to set up Schiller Park’s Truck 5 ladder system and even ascended to the roof. Once on the roof, both departments worked together to make trench cuts, which allowed us to direct a handline into the affected areas and extinguish lingering hotspots effectively. This collaborative effort kept us on the scene for approximately three hours. During that time, a significant wind and rainstorm swept through the region, adding extra challenges to our mission. While some of our crew was engaged in firefighting efforts, others remained at the station, prepared to handle additional emergency calls. These included incidents involving downed power lines and trees due to the storm, as well as various EMS cases. Special thanks go out to Tim Olk for capturing these incredible photos! --- After the fire was under control, one thing we prioritize is ensuring our equipment is thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and readied for future emergencies. Additionally, every firefighter is mandated to wash their gear, a practice critical for minimizing exposure risks linked to cancer. --- Here are some images from the scene, shared by Tim Olk: ![3-Alarm fire in Franklin Park, IL 8-10-20](#) ![Warehouse Fire](#) ![Firefighting Efforts](#) ![Firefighters on the Scene](#) ![Smoke-Filled Area](#) --- It's moments like these that remind me of the dedication and teamwork displayed by our local firefighters. Their commitment to safety, both for themselves and the community, is truly inspiring. Thanks again to everyone involved for their hard work and vigilance during such challenging conditions!
