High angle rescue in Chicago, 6-2-19

This is from Eric Haak:

On Sunday afternoon, June 2nd, a challenging rescue unfolded at 53rd and Union in Chicago. A tree trimmer became stuck upside down at a moderate height with a broken leg. Firefighters from the 6th Battalion quickly responded, with Engine 18 positioning its ladder to support the victim while Squad 5 and Tower Ladder 39 made their way to the scene. With the man's weight resting on Engine 18’s aerial, the team began the delicate process of freeing him. Eventually, Tower Ladder 39’s platform was maneuvered beneath the victim, allowing for a safe descent. The entire operation took around 45 minutes.

One of the biggest challenges was the unstable ground. Tower Ladder 39 had to use a nearby vacant lot, which was soft and muddy due to recent heavy rains. To stabilize their equipment, they used fence posts being installed on the site. It was a tough but successful effort, showing the teamwork and adaptability of the firefighters involved.
