Chicago Still Alarm 9-10-11

Tim Olk was, for once, in the perfect spot at the perfect time yesterday morning when the Fire Alarm Office issued a Still Alarm at 510 S. California. Tim was nearby and arrived just behind Engine 107 to find a two-story "ordinary" building that was vacant, with an adjacent structure on one side and an empty lot on the other. Thick smoke was pouring from the second floor, signaling a serious situation. The responding companies acted quickly, made a solid attack, and managed to contain the fire at a Still Alarm level. Tim captured a few great shots and has more photos in his gallery, which you can check out here.

It's always impressive to see how quickly crews respond and manage these incidents. The fact that the fire was contained at a Still Alarm is a good sign of their preparedness and coordination. It also highlights the importance of being in the right place at the right time — something Tim definitely was. His photos give a clear view of the situation and the efforts of the firefighters on scene.
