Box Alarm in Skokie, 4-1-15

On Wednesday morning, April 1st, 2015, at 11:00 AM, Skokie firefighters responded to a house fire at 9163 Lincoln Avenue. At the time, several Skokie fire companies were already on EMS calls, which made the situation more challenging. A clear header was displayed for responding units, and a Box Alarm was called before the first unit arrived. This triggered assistance from neighboring departments, including Evanston, Wilmette, and Morton Grove, in addition to units coming off their shifts. Adam Levinson shared some powerful photos from the scene, capturing the intensity of the Box Alarm at 8163 Lincoln. His images show firefighters preparing to enter the burning home, operating hoses, and working together under pressure. These photos give a real sense of what it's like during such an emergency. In addition to Adam’s contributions, Steve Redick provided a video clip that offers a visual look at the incident. Meanwhile, Larry Shapiro shared his own collection of images, taken later in the day, showing the aftermath of the fire, the firefighters in action, and even a shot of Skokie Fire Department Ambulance 17. He also included a photo of the Skokie Police Department’s mobile command post, highlighting the coordinated effort between agencies. For those interested in the actual radio communications during the response, there is an audio recording available. It provides insight into how the crews coordinated their efforts in real time. This event was a clear example of how quickly emergency services can mobilize and work together in times of crisis. The combined efforts of multiple departments helped ensure a swift and effective response to the house fire.
