Crash with extrication in North Aurora, 10-16-17
On October 16, 2017, a serious car accident occurred in North Aurora, Illinois. It happened near the intersection of Orchard Road and Interstate 88, where two vehicles ended up trapped underneath a semi-truck. Emergency services responded quickly, and unfortunately, there were fatalities involved. Dave Weaver captured footage of the incident, which you can see embedded below.
According to reports from the Chicago Tribune, two men lost their lives in this collision, while several others sustained injuries, some quite severe. The crash involved a Jaguar and a GMC Envoy, both moving at high speed northbound on Orchard Road, colliding with a semi-truck exiting I-88 heading south. The GMC driver, identified as Christopher Shaw, passed away at the scene. One of his passengers, Devonte Bouchee, succumbed to his injuries later that day, and another passenger remains hospitalized with critical injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Jaguar, along with the semi-truck driver, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities. Authorities are currently investigating potential links between this crash and two earlier shootings in Aurora. Detectives from both the Kane County Sheriff's Office and Aurora Police are exploring the possibility that these events are connected to gang-related activity. Interestingly, the colors of the cars involved in the crash match those seen in the Aurora shootings earlier that morning.
Further complicating matters, there were two separate reports of vehicles chasing each other and exchanging gunfire in Aurora prior to the crash. Although no property was damaged in the first shooting, the second incident caused bullet damage to two homes. As of now, law enforcement is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact either the Kane County investigators at 630-444-1103, Aurora police at 630-256-5500, or the Aurora area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
This tragic sequence of events has left the community shaken, and authorities are working diligently to piece together what transpired leading up to this devastating outcome.
