House fire in Crystal Lake, 4-15-17

On April 14, 2017, a house fire broke out on Illinois Street in Crystal Lake, within the jurisdiction of the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District. The incident quickly escalated, prompting a call for tenders to establish a reliable water supply—a crucial step in managing the situation. Steve Redick captured some compelling images from the scene, offering a glimpse into the efforts made by various fire departments to contain the blaze. One of the first responders on the scene was the Crystal Lake Fire Department, with their impressive fire engine standing tall amidst the chaos. The Cary Fire Protection District also played a significant role, sending over their tender vehicle to support the operation. The Nunda Rural Fire Protection District brought in their mini pumper and Engine 41, both of which were vital in navigating the tight spaces and providing necessary firefighting capabilities. Further assistance came from the Grayslake Fire Protection District, whose tanker truck was instrumental in maintaining the water flow needed to suppress the flames. The Union Fire Protection District also sent their own tanker, proving that teamwork was central to this mission. Meanwhile, the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department arrived with their fire engine, ready to take on any challenges that arose. The McHenry Township Fire Department added their resources to the mix, deploying a fire truck that became a key component of the operation. The Round Lake Fire Protection District sent one of their fire engines, while the Mundelein Fire Department brought Truck 431 into play. Fox Lake Fire Protection District also contributed their fire engine, and the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District sent their tanker to ensure the fire didn’t spread further. Throughout the night, the Nunda Rural Fire Protection District continued to deploy additional resources, including Engine 45, which joined Engine 41 in the frontlines. It was clear that this was a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies, each bringing unique equipment and expertise to the table. These photos not only capture the intensity of the situation but also highlight the dedication and professionalism of the firefighters who worked tirelessly to protect lives and property. Steve Redick’s images serve as a reminder of the critical role these departments play in our communities, often working under immense pressure to keep us safe.
