Working fire in Prospect Heights, 12-15-17

On Friday evening, December 15th, Prospect Heights Fire Protection District (PHFPD) received a call at 6:47 PM about reports of smoke coming from a building located in the 1200 block of North Elmhurst Road. Upon their arrival, firefighters found no visible signs of fire. However, after conducting a thorough investigation, they discovered flames originating from the roof near an exhaust fan that served one of the多家餐厅 in the shopping plaza. The initial response, which had been downgraded to a Code 4 status, was quickly escalated to a full-blown working fire operation. Firefighters from Prospect Heights immediately deployed one hose line to the rooftop, where units from both Prospect Heights and Wheeling worked together to check for any potential spread of the fire. Simultaneously, another hose line was directed into the restaurant directly beneath the affected area, with units E9 and E39 tasked with ensuring there was no internal spread of the blaze. The firefighting effort involved multiple resources from different districts. In addition to Prospect Heights's Engine 9, Engine 39, Tower 9, Tower 900, Tower 901, and Battalion 9, support came from Wheeling’s Engine 23, Tower 24, and Ambulance 23. Arlington Heights sent Engine 4, while Lincolnshire-Riverwoods contributed Squad 51 to the operation. Additionally, several chief officers, including Chief Officers 2400, 2401, 5500, and a Mobile Pumping (MP) chief, were called back to assist. As the situation unfolded, images captured by photographer Drew Smith provided a glimpse into the scene. The first photo shows firefighters actively engaged in tackling the blaze, while the second captures additional crews arriving to provide backup. A third image highlights the extensive equipment brought in to manage the fire effectively. Overall, this incident underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between various fire departments when responding to emergencies. Despite the challenges posed by the location and nature of the fire, all units involved demonstrated professionalism and efficiency, ultimately containing the situation before it could escalate further.
