Still & Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 4/15/15
This message comes from Dennis McGuire, Jr., who shared his firsthand account of an early morning fire he encountered this past Saturday. Around 6 a.m., Engine Company 115 was the first unit to arrive on the scene at an unoccupied, single-story grocery store measuring approximately 150 feet by 100 feet. Upon entering, firefighters discovered that the fire had originated in the loading dock area but hadn't yet spread to any part of the building's structure.
As someone who’s been following the Chicago Fire Department's activities closely, I thought it was important to share what happened next. Engine 115 quickly got to work, ensuring that the situation remained under control without causing further damage to the property. It's always reassuring to see how professional and efficient these teams are when responding to emergencies like this one.
For those interested in seeing more photos from the incident, Dennis has generously provided a link to his website where additional images can be viewed: [http://312firephotos.smugmug.com/Chicago-Fire-Department-Fires/2015/Still-Box-10700-S-Halsted-St-4]. His collection offers a detailed look at the scene, capturing everything from the initial response to the final cleanup efforts.
I’ve also included some of Dennis McGuire, Jr.'s photographs below, which give a closer view of the fire trucks arriving at the scene, a CFD battalion chief assessing the situation, and Engine 120 being deployed. These visuals help paint a clearer picture of the coordinated efforts made by firefighters during such incidents.
It’s always inspiring to witness how communities come together during times of crisis, and the dedication shown by the Chicago Fire Department never ceases to amaze me. If you have any thoughts or questions about this event—or if you'd like to learn more about similar occurrences in the area—I’d love to hear from you! Let’s keep the conversation going and support our local heroes who put their lives on the line every day.
