Working fire in Chicago 6-30-18
From what Tim Olk just shared with me, here’s the situation he’s covering: The Chicago Fire Department is currently tackling an active fire near Monroe and west of Hamlin. It's an intense situation, made even more challenging by the extreme heat. As you can imagine, it’s putting the firefighters to the test as they work under these harsh conditions.
I’ve got some images from the scene that really capture the intensity of it all. In one shot, thick smoke is billowing from an apartment building—just look at how dense it is. That was captured by Tim Olk. Another image shows firefighters standing outside, clearly exhausted but still focused on the task at hand. There’s also a photo of a firefighter cooling off after what must have been a grueling effort. You can almost feel the relief in his posture despite the oppressive heat.
It’s moments like this where you truly appreciate the dedication of our first responders. They’re out there working tirelessly, even when the elements themselves seem determined to make their job harder than ever.
